KUALA LUMPUR - Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that construction of the Downtown Line 2 extension (DTLe), aimed at improving rail links in the north-western region, will begin in the second quarter of 2026.
In a statement, LTA said two civil engineering contracts worth a total of about SGD735 million have been awarded for the project.
The first contract, valued at around SGD285 million, was awarded to Woh Hup Engineering Pte Ltd, while the second contract worth SGD450 million was awarded to a joint venture between Samwoh Corporation Pte Ltd and China Communications Construction Company Ltd (Singapore Branch).
“When completed, DTLe will enhance rail connectivity in the north-western region and shorten travel times for commuters travelling between the north and north-western parts of Singapore.
“We target to complete construction and commence passenger service for DTLe in 2035,” it said.
The extension project will include three stations, with the first located underground along Sungei Kadut Avenue after Bukit Panjang.
The new Downtown Line terminus will be an underground interchange station connected to a new above-ground station situated between Yew Tee and Kranji stations on the North-South Line (NSL).
