KUALA LUMPUR - Foreign travellers have been advised to continue using the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) application and manual counters as a technical disruption affecting immigration autogates has yet to be resolved.
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said the issue continues to affect e-gates at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex in Johor.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, the agency said the technical problem, which began on January 10, involves only foreign passport holders.
“The public is informed that the eGate system disruption is still recurring, and the operational status remains unchanged, involving foreign passport holders only,” it said.
AKPS said Malaysian passport holders are not affected by the glitch.
It added that foreign travellers may still use selected e-gates, including those at the incoming and outgoing bus halls.
The agency said it is working closely with the Immigration Department to carry out repair works and is monitoring the situation.
On January 10, tens of thousands of foreign travellers were reported to be stranded in long queues at Malaysia’s two land checkpoints with Singapore following a major system failure.
The situation was most severe at BSI, where some foreigners waited up to two hours to clear immigration.
It was learnt that at least 39 autogates at entry points and 29 machines at exit areas in the bus halls at BSI had been experiencing technical issues for several days.
The system eventually crashed on January 10 amid a heavy influx of foreign travellers over the weekend.
