JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the city will launch a Transjabodetabek bus route from Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta Airport in mid-February 2026. The fare will be 3,500 rupiah, or about US$ 21 cents.
The announcement came on Wednesday, February 4, at the City Hall. Anung said the route will use dedicated bus lanes and should cut travel time compared to other options. He expects high ridership based on existing routes, particularly the Blok M to Bogor line, which he said fills up daily.
“Regarding the buses prepared for this route, there are 20 units. So, there will always be one every five, maximum ten, minutes,” Anung said.
The new airport service could potentially undercut existing options by a wide margin. Damri airport buses charge 60,000 to 90,000 rupiah for routes to central Jakarta while taxis run 150,000 to 200,000 rupiah, depending on the area. The airport train costs 70,000 rupiah from the Manggarai station, the route’s very last stop.
The Indonesian capital, which is now the most populated city in the world according to the United Nations, depends heavily on private vehicles despite expanded public transit. Public transport usage reached 21 percent citywide in early 2025, according to Governor Anung. The network now covers 91 percent of the city.
Jakarta’s provincial government reported that ridership on TransJakarta, MRT, and LRT reached 461.1 million passengers in 2025, up 16.65% from 402.2 million in 2024 (and 318.6 million in 2023). The increase was mainly driven by service expansion, including six new routes and the addition of 327 buses, as well as a free-fare program for 15 social groups that served 25.58 million riders in 2025.
The airport route joins a planned Cawang to the industrial Jababeka area line also in the works. Final details on schedules and stops will come from the Jakarta Transportation Agency.
