NEW TAIPEI CITY - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia launched its BRImo mobile banking application in Taiwan on Aug. 23, expanding digital financial services and remittance access for Indonesian migrant workers.
The state-owned lender introduced the platform at New Taipei City Hall, allowing users to manage daily transactions and transfer funds directly to Indonesian bank accounts without visiting a physical branch.
The launch comes one year after the establishment of BRI's Taipei branch. As of late July, the branch’s total assets surpassed $408 million, and it had processed approximately $490 million in Taiwan-Indonesia remittances across more than 3,400 accounts.
Operating under the supervision of Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission and Central Deposit Insurance Corporation, the platform aims to provide safer and more transparent cross-border financial services for the territory's large Indonesian workforce.
Taiwan remains a major destination for Indonesian migrant workers. According to Bank Indonesia data cited by CNN Indonesia, remittances from the territory reached about $2.97 billion in 2025, more than double the $1.37 billion recorded in 2021.
“BRI’s presence in Taiwan is not simply about opening an office or providing digital services. It is about being closer to Indonesians who work, build their careers, and create their futures in Taiwan,” BRI President Director Hery Gunardi said, as quoted by local publication Jakarta Globe.
“We want BRI to serve as a bridge connecting their financial needs in Taiwan with their families and various needs back home in Indonesia”.
