KUALA LUMPUR - Touch ’n Go (TNG) eWallet has been officially recognised by the Sabah Labour Department (JTK Sabah) as an approved digital wage payment method for migrant workers, allowing employers to move away from cash-based salaries.

The recognition permits employers, including those operating in remote plantations and worksites, to disburse wages electronically through TNG eWallet using DuitNow bulk transfers via existing banking platforms, Daily Express reported.

No system integration or additional training is required, lowering barriers for employers seeking to adopt digital payroll processes.

The approval follows earlier recognition by the Labour Department of Peninsular Malaysia, reinforcing efforts to expand digital wage payments in East Malaysia.

TNG Digital chief executive officer Alan Ni said the move addresses long-standing operational challenges in Sabah, where limited access to banking facilities has made cash payments the norm.

He said more than 100,000 migrant workers nationwide are already paid through TNG eWallet, with over RM3.5 billion in wages disbursed in 2025, demonstrating the platform’s security and scalability.

Each verified TNG eWallet user is assigned a DuitNow account number, enhancing payroll transparency, reconciliation and regulatory compliance.

The platform also eases administrative workloads for employers through self-service security features.

For migrant workers, it offers secure digital wage storage, cash withdrawal options, global payments via the Touch ’n Go eWallet Visa Card, and remittance services to send money home.
