JAKARTA - Jakarta's MRT carried 135,117 passengers on the first two days of Eid al-Fitr 1447H, the highest Lebaran ridership the system has recorded. PT MRT Jakarta logged 51,189 riders on March 21 and 83,928 on March 22, up 77.54% from the 76,106 passengers counted over the same two-day window in 2025.
The operator ran its standard weekend schedule across all 13 stations, with trains departing every 10 minutes from 05.00 to 24.00. PT MRT Jakarta deployed 219 trips using seven active trainsets and kept eight in reserve. The Rp1 symbolic fare was part of the DKI Jakarta provincial government's #MudikDiJakarta program, authorized under Transportation Authority decree No. e-0056 Tahun 2026.
Rendy Primartantyo, Head of Corporate Secretary at PT MRT Jakarta, said the result reflected growing momentum behind public transport use in the city.
“The increase in ridership during this year's Rp1 special fare shows that enthusiasm for using Jakarta's public transport network is growing, both on working days and during holidays like now,” he said. “PT MRT Jakarta strongly encourages the acceleration of network development, intermodal interconnection, and station-area development.”
Two days after the Eid rush, on March 24, MRT Jakarta marked its seventh anniversary. The system first began operations on March 24, 2019, and the date has been observed as Hari MRT every year since.
This year the operator offered a Rp243 symbolic fare to riders who purchased tickets through the MyMRTJ app using Kredivo, blu by BCA Digital, or GoPay, limited to one trip per user. The celebration campaigns run through April 24 with a public-facing Festival Hari MRT 2026 scheduled for April 24 and 25.
MRT Jakarta averaged 135,332 passengers per day in January 2026, with weekdays regularly hitting 159,492 and weekends at 91,406. The holiday surge on day two of Eid was broadly in line with a typical January weekday.
Besides MRT Jakarta, the capital’s governor Pramono Anung has previously ordered other provincially managed public transport, including LRT Jakarta and TransJakarta, to operate under the special Rp1 fare on March 21–22 during Eid al-Fitr to keep the city active as many residents leave for the Eid homecoming.
MRT Jakarta’s Phase 2A, a 5.8-kilometer underground extension adding seven new stations from Bundaran HI to Kota, is targeting a partial opening in 2027 for the Thamrin-Monas section, with the full Phase 2A line set to commence operations in 2028.
