JAKARTA - The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and the Single European Sky ATM Research Joint Undertaking signed a joint declaration in Lisbon on May 26 to improve long-term air traffic flows between Singapore and Europe, CAAS said in a May 28 release.
The declaration covers future air traffic management systems. CAAS said both sides will work on ways to make cross-regional flight operations more coordinated, including through the International Civil Aviation Organization’s work on a minimum implementation path.
“The Joint Declaration signifies our shared commitment to leverage new technology like artificial intelligence and automation to improve air traffic management and enhance the air links between Singapore and Europe,” CAAS Director-General Han Kok Juan said.
Haan added that the work would make flying between Europe and Singapore, and through Singapore to Asia, Australia and New Zealand, more seamless for airlines and passengers. He and SESAR JU Executive Director Andreas Boschen signed the declaration on the sidelines of Airspace World 2026 in Portugal.
The annex says trajectory-based operations would manage a whole flight path, including route, altitude, speed and timing, as one continuously updated trajectory from departure gate to arrival gate. It also says that real-time information on weather, airport capacity and traffic demand can help aircraft use more efficient routes, reduce fuel use and cut delays.
Singapore’s Changi Airport remains one of Asia-Pacific’s main long-haul hubs. Changi Airport Group recorded 23.3 million passenger movements from January to April. It also recorded 126,000 commercial aircraft movements in the first four months of the year.
SESAR JU brings together the European Union, Eurocontrol and more than 50 organisations across aviation, including airports, airspace users, air navigation service providers, drone operators, manufacturers and researchers. CAAS said the partnership also works with regulatory and standardisation bodies including EASA and EUROCAE.
