KUALA LUMPUR - International passengers arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 without luggage can now head straight to the arrival hall using the newly introduced green lane system.
Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook said two green lanes have been provided for passengers with no items to declare to help reduce congestion and long queues, especially at the baggage claim area.
A red lane has also been designated for passengers carrying goods that need customs inspection or are subject to duty, Bernama reported.
Loke said the system is being implemented on a one-month trial basis before any wider rollout.
If successful, the green lane system will be expanded to KLIA Terminal 2 and international airports in Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Penang and Johor Bahru.
“Previously, all passengers had to go through a single lane, and baggage was often required to pass through scanners, causing delays and long queues.
“We hope this initiative will further improve efficiency at KLIA Terminal 1. Even with the green lane, officers or personnel on duty can still stop or inspect passengers at any time. National security remains our top priority,” he said after inspecting the system at KLIA Terminal 1.
He said the green lane has improved passenger movement and made travel more convenient ahead of an expected rise in tourist arrivals for Visit Malaysia 2026.
Malaysia is targeting 43 million international tourist arrivals this year under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
