JAKARTA - Indonesia’s immigration authority will ramp up monitoring of foreign nationals across the country during the Christmas and New Year period, with operations scheduled from December 29 to January 2.

Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman said the monitoring will focus on areas with large foreign populations. He referred to a mid-December operation that identified 220 foreign nationals for alleged immigration violations.

At the same time, some immigration services will still continue during the holidays, with limits.

Walk-in passport applications on December 25, 26, and January 1 will only be accepted in emergency cases, including applicants seeking medical treatment overseas or those with immediate family members who are seriously ill or have died abroad. Supporting documents are required. Passport services will operate normally from December 29 to 31.

Residence permit applications will continue to be processed. Applications submitted before Christmas will be completed by December 25. Applications submitted from Christmas Day will be processed between December 29 and 31. Immigration offices will also handle cases involving overstays and permits close to expiry on public holidays.

Immigration services at airports and seaports will operate as usual throughout the holiday period.

According to official data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia reached 1.48 million in July 2025, up about 13 percent from the same month last year. From January to September 2025, total foreign arrivals reached 11.43 million, roughly 10 percent higher than in the same period in 2024.
