JAKARTA - Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration reportedly recorded Rp52.1 trillion in investment from the Golden Visa programme as of May 18, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections said in a May 21 release. The figure came from 1,274 Golden Visas issued since the programme was launched in Jakarta on July 25, 2024.
The largest investment came from the corporate investor category, listed under index E28D, with Rp50.88 trillion. Individual investors who did not establish a company, under index E28C, contributed Rp179.39 billion. Individual investors who established a company, under index E28B, contributed Rp130.27 billion.
The Golden Visa gives eligible foreign investors, business owners, researchers, top students and other selected applicants a long-term residence pathway in Indonesia. Immigration’s Golden Visa page lists investor categories including E28B for company establishment, E28C for investment without company establishment, E28D for branch or subsidiary establishment, and E28F for investment in the new capital.
“This program serves as part of the national strategy to support economic growth and increased investment without neglecting security aspects,” Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko said in Jakarta on May 21.
The programme offers residence permits of five to 10 years, removes the requirement to have a sponsor in Indonesia, allows eligible holders to bring family members, and provides priority immigration services, according to the ministry. The ministry said the largest number of Golden Visa holders came from the United States with 160 people, followed by China with 147 and Taiwan with 110.
President Joko Widodo launched the Golden Visa on July 25, 2024 at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Jakarta, according to the Cabinet Secretariat’s launch report. At the time, immigration data showed about 300 applicants had registered. Jokowi said the policy would undergo periodic evaluation and that applicants had to pass a selection process.
Hendarsam said immigration would apply a selective policy despite the program's investment focus. “We ensure that every visa holder meets security requirements, legal compliance, and makes a real contribution to the national interest, in line with the spirit of immigration for the people,” he said.
