JAKARTA - PT MRT Jakarta signed agreements with seven property developers on February 4 to study extending the East-West Line Phase 2 from Kembangan to Balaraja in Banten province. The memorandum was witnessed by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Banten Governor Andra Soni at City Hall.

The developers are Summarecon Serpong, Alam Sutera, Lippo Karawaci, Paramount Land, Summarecon Tangerang, Intiland Development and Metland Cyber Putri. Farchad Mahfud, MRT Jakarta’s business development director, signed the agreements.

“If what is signed today can be realized, this will be an unforgettable history. Something that begins with mutual trust, respect, and friendship,” said Governor Anung. “I am confident that this collaboration will provide significant benefits for Jakarta and Banten.”

A joint working group will spend the next two years developing joint work plans covering the Kembangan-Balaraja route, interconnections and area integration.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Area holds nearly 42 million people according to UN data, and the Indonesian capital itself has 11 million residents. Approximately 4.5 million people enter Jakarta each working day, most using private vehicles.

MRT’s East-West Line currently under construction will run from Tomang to Medan Satria in Bekasi, covering 24.5 kilometers. The Japan International Cooperation Agency is providing financing for that section, and the Balaraja extension would push the line further west into heavily developed areas of Tangerang.

The North-South Line, Jakarta's first MRT route, opened in 2019 and runs 16 kilometers from Lebak Bulus to Hotel Indonesia (Bundaran HI). An extension to Kota Tua in North Jakarta is also under construction.
