PHUKET - Thai immigration authorities revoked an American man’s permission to stay after police detained him at a Phuket hotel on Aug. 29 over eight U.S. arrest warrants.

Thai police identified the man as Lance Michael Beck, 48. According to a Thai police-derived account of the operation, the FBI asked Thai authorities on Aug. 27 to locate him and assist with the case.

Police said Beck was wanted under seven Alabama state warrants and one federal warrant concerning allegations involving the sexual abuse and exploitation of a minor.

The allegations cited by Thai authorities include sexual torture, rape, human trafficking, facilitating a child’s travel for an unlawful sex act, sexual abuse and incest.

According to information provided by U.S. authorities, Beck is alleged to have sexually abused a child under 14 and recorded the abuse on video. The accusations remain allegations subject to the U.S. legal process.

Investigators from Bangkok’s Metropolitan Police Bureau, Immigration Division 3 and Sakhu Police Station traced Beck after determining that he had entered Thailand through Phuket International Airport and was staying at a hotel in the Nai Yang Beach area of Thalang district.

Officers located Beck at about 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 29. Police informed him that his permission to remain in Thailand had been revoked, and Beck confirmed his identity and acknowledged the revocation order.

Police said Beck was subsequently transferred to the Immigration Detention Center pending further immigration proceedings and his return to the United States to face legal proceedings.

The operation followed coordination between Thai authorities and the FBI.

The police account said the operation “reflects the strong partnership between Thai and U.S. law enforcement agencies.”
