KUALA LUMPUR - The Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) Mukhtarudin has confirmed that the case of Seni, a migrant worker from Temanggung, Central Java, is being handled seriously by the authorities.

Mukhtarudin said that the government will act whenever Indonesian migrant workers face inhumane treatment or exploitation overseas.

"We are paying serious attention to this case. The government will ensure that every migrant worker receives full protection and restoration of their rights," he said last Saturday.

He said his ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur responded quickly by sending a diplomatic note to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make sure the case receives full attention.

Legal support for Seni is being provided through lawyers appointed by the Bar Council of Malaysia.

KP2MI and the Indonesian Embassy have also given direct assistance to Seni, helped her communicate with her family, and issued her a Travel Document in Lieu of a Passport (SPLP).

Mukhtarudin said his ministry is committed to ensuring a transparent and fair legal process and will continue to work closely with Malaysian authorities until the case is settled.

He urged the public to always use official channels when seeking work abroad and to report any abuse, exploitation, or fraud during the placement process.

Seni had worked as a domestic helper for more than 20 years and was overworked and underpaid by her employer.
