KUALA LUMPUR - Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology launched a vocational education partnership with China to train 10,000 skilled workers and boost global competitiveness in Jakarta last Wednesday.
Director for Learning and Student Affairs, Beny Bandanadjaja said the memorandum of understanding offers a strategic opportunity for vocational higher education with tangible societal benefits.
“This memorandum of understanding is a strategic opportunity for vocational higher education, and we expect it to be implemented in concrete ways that deliver real benefits to society,” said Beny.
The agreement connects the Indonesian Vocational Higher Education Forum (FPTVI) with the Guangdong Education Association for International Exchange, allowing joint training, internships, certification, and applied learning linked to industry needs.
Beny said the pact must produce measurable results, creating competent, professional, and globally competitive graduates while supporting national development.
FPTVI Chairman Muhammad Restu said the partnership positions Indonesian polytechnics as emerging global players, giving students access to training and internships in Guangdong as a gateway to international job markets.
A major feature of the program is the 1+10+100+1,000+10,000 plan, which includes one cooperation centre, 10 priority industries, over 100 exchange activities, mobility for 1,000 students, and training for 10,000 Indonesian talents.
The initiative is implemented with Lingnan Artisan Polytechnic and integrates industry, education, research, and talent development through joint programs, exchanges, language training, certification, and teacher capacity building.
Officials said the program encourages brain circulation, letting Indonesian graduates gain international experience and return home with skills to strengthen the local workforce and support long-term industrial growth.
