KUALA LUMPUR - Starting January 2, foreign residents in South Korea will be able to submit mandatory employment information online, the Ministry of Justice announced on Tuesday.

According to The Korea Bizwire, foreigners who engage in profit-making work are legally required to report their occupation and income, and to update the authorities within 15 days of any changes.

Until now, limited functionality in the online system has meant that most foreigners had to visit local immigration offices in person and submit paper forms.

The upgraded system will allow users to report employment details through the government’s HiKorea portal.

Those applying to extend their stay or change visa status will also be able to submit employment information when booking an appointment at an immigration office.

After completing initial registration as a foreign resident, individuals will be able to report any subsequent employment changes entirely online.

The Ministry of Justice said the new system will also enable more systematic management and analysis of employment data to prevent potential disruptions in the labour market and ensure that foreign employment does not negatively affect job opportunities for Korean citizens.
