KUALA LUMPUR - Thailand’s Labour Minister, Trinuch Thienthong has announced that migrant workers from Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam whose permits are due to expire will be granted a one-year extension, according to local news reports.

The extension applies to workers whose permits expire between February and March 2026, as part of efforts to prevent labour shortages and support employers and industries.

“The majority of the Cambodian workers whose permits are expiring are employed in the agricultural sector.

Plans are underway to recruit replacement workers once their contracts end,” Trinuch added.

The Ministry of Labour said workers must apply for the extension before their permits expire, and applications will only be accepted once the Ministry of Interior announces the official dates and procedures.

Employers and migrant workers are encouraged to prepare in advance to avoid delays in processing their applications.

The minister also confirmed that Thailand will not extend the permits of more than 90,000 Cambodian workers due to border tensions with Cambodia, and the labour demand will instead be met by workers from Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam.

“There will be no severe labour shortage in Thailand. We are preparing to extend work permits for workers from Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar,” she said.
