KUALA LUMPUR - The Philippines has called for greater global support for job creation, financing and climate resilience at the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) meeting on April 14.

Finance Secretary, Frederick Go said rising geopolitical tensions and climate risks are putting increasing pressure on developing economies.

He said overlapping global challenges are limiting countries’ ability to respond, especially as financial resources become tighter.

He stressed the need for scaled-up and more flexible financing, including budget support and emergency funding tools to help countries manage external shocks while maintaining social services and development efforts.

Go also called for stronger efforts to attract private investment in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy transition and digital services to support job creation and growth.

He highlighted the need to invest in human capital to ensure economic reforms lead to better jobs and improved living standards.

Go also stressed the urgency of strengthening climate and disaster resilience, especially for vulnerable countries like the Philippines, through better access to funding and technical support.

“Sustaining progress requires collective resolve. We call on countries and development partners to deepen collaboration in responding to both current and emerging crises,” Go said during the G-24 meeting.

He urged stronger multilateral cooperation to improve the global financial system and ensure inclusive and sustainable development.

The Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four is a group of developing nations that works together on international financial and development issues while promoting fair and stable economic growth.
