KUALA LUMPUR - A total of 1,426 workers have been retrenched following the closure of WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd’s facility in Sepang, Selangor.

The Ministry of Human Resources confirmed that the company has entered liquidation and a liquidator has been appointed.

Termination notices were issued with effect from April 15.

Of the total, 304 are Malaysian workers while 1,122 are foreign employees, as reported by The Malaysian Reserve.

The shutdown comes amid mounting operational pressures linked to global supply chain disruptions and rising costs.

The company cited sharp increases in petrochemical-based raw materials and chemicals.

It also pointed to supply uncertainties driven largely by the ongoing West Asia conflict.

Suppliers were reported to have demanded advance payments, further straining the company’s cash flow.

The ministry said salaries for March have been fully settled.

April wages are currently being processed.

Some Malaysian workers are expected to be offered short-term roles to support winding-down operations.

These roles include documentation, financial administration and maintenance of factory assets.

The Social Security Organisation is assisting affected workers through job matching and career counselling initiatives.

Support is being provided via the MYFutureJobs platform.

Workers are also being briefed on benefits under the Employment Insurance System.

For foreign workers, interim welfare arrangements remain in place.

“WRP has given its assurance that the welfare of foreign workers, including the provision of accommodation and food, will continue to be maintained until their relocation is completed,” the ministry said.

Officials said the measures aim to ease the transition for affected workers while ensuring compliance with labour and welfare standards.
