JAKARTA - The Indonesian government has introduced a Work From Anywhere (WFA) arrangement spanning five working days around the Eid al-Fitr holiday, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced at a press conference at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, on February 10.
The policy covers March 16-17 before the holiday and March 25-27 after, applying to both civil servants and private sector employees. Airlangga said that WFA represents flexible work arrangements, not additional leave.
“Workers/laborers who carry out WFA continue to carry out work in accordance with their duties and obligations, and therefore the implementation of WFA is not counted as annual leave,” said Yassierli, Indonesia’s Manpower Minister, who was also present at the press conference.
Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Rini Widyantini confirmed the policy is backed by Ministerial Circular Letter No. 2/2026. That said, however, she mentioned that essential public services including healthcare, transportation, and security must continue normal operations during the WFA period.
The Labor Ministry instructed employers not to deduct the WFA days from employees’ annual leave quotas and to maintain full salary payments. However, sectors like healthcare, hospitality, shopping centers, manufacturing, and food and beverage industries are exempt from the arrangement.
The policy forms part of a broader Rp 13 trillion economic stimulus package for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026. Transportation discounts alone account for Rp 911.16 billion to manage the expected surge in travel during the homecoming season besides Rp 11.92 trillion for food assistance programs.
Last year’s Eid holiday period (2025) saw mobility reach 154.62 million people, mainly driven by the “Mudik” tradition, as millions of Indonesians traveled from major cities back to their hometowns to celebrate the Islamic holy day with family.
