KUALA LUMPUR - Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, Raden Datuk Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo has pledged to further strengthen relations between Indonesia and Malaysia through wider cooperation, Bernama reported.

Speaking at a breaking of fast event during his first meeting with the media, he said enhancing bilateral ties has always been the priority of every Indonesian ambassador posted to Malaysia.

“I would like to focus on investment, trade and the protection of Indonesian workers.

“Proper protection for Indonesian workers will contribute positively to the bilateral relations between the two countries,” he said.

He noted that in 2025, President Prabowo Subianto visited Malaysia five times, making it the country he visited most frequently last year.

Hascarya said the media play an important role in supporting positive relations between the two nations.

He added that he would maintain close ties with Malaysian media, following the approach of his predecessor, Hermono.

He said Malaysia remains important to Indonesia not only because of shared language and cultural similarities, but also because many Indonesians work here to support their families at home.

He added that the movement of people between both countries is high, especially for tourism.

On the regional front, he expressed confidence that Southeast Asia would remain peaceful despite global uncertainties, citing the close cooperation among member states of Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The ambassador presented his letter of credence to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, on January 20.
