JAKARTA - A Green SM taxi was involved in a collision with a KRL Commuter Line train at a rail crossing near Bulak Kapal before Monday night’s fatal crash at Bekasi Timur Station, where the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train struck another stopped commuter train, killing 15 people and injuring 84.
The Transportation Ministry’s early chronology said a Bekasi-Cikarang KRL was first involved in a collision with a taxi at the JPL 85 rail crossing. After that incident, officers stopped another KRL, coded PLB 5568, at Bekasi Timur Station. The Argo Bromo Anggrek then failed to stop in time and hit the KRL at the station.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday that the confirmed toll stood at 14 dead and 84 injured and 84 injured as of 8:45 a.m. “As of 8:45 a.m., 14 people have died, 84 were injured, and the response process is still ongoing,” Bobby said, according to Indonesia’s state-owned agency Antara. By later Tuesday, local authorities put the death toll at 15. The dead were taken to RS Polri Kramat Jati for identification, while injured passengers were treated at several hospitals in Bekasi.
Green SM Indonesia said in a statement shared on its official Instagram account that it was cooperating with authorities. “We have submitted relevant information to the authorities and fully support the ongoing investigation process,” the company said. Green SM also said, “Safety remains our top priority. We are committed to maintaining high safety standards through our operations, supervision and continuous service improvement.”
President Prabowo Subianto visited victims at RSUD Bekasi on Tuesday and said the government would investigate the crash. “We will immediately conduct an investigation into how this happened,” Prabowo said, according to remarks published by the Cabinet Secretariat. He also said many railway crossings remained unguarded and that the government would address them through guard posts or flyovers.
The Bekasi incident follows other recent rail-related incidents involving Green SM taxis. A Green SM taxi was previously struck by a train in the Kemayoran-Kampung Bandan area of Jakarta, on December 31, 2025, after the vehicle was inside the crossing barrier and tried to cross following the passage of another train. The front of the vehicle was damaged and its airbags deployed, but no casualties were reported.
Antara also reported an earlier rail-crossing incident involving a Green SM taxi in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on October 10, 2025, where the taxi was clipped by the rear of a passing train.
