JAKARTA - Grab said it has completed the distribution of its 2026 Eid holiday bonus, paying out about Rp110 billion ($7 million) to more than 400,000 driver partners across Indonesia ahead of the Eid holiday after Ramadan.

The latest development was confirmed Monday, when the Singapore-based ride-hailing platform said the bonuses had been fully disbursed by March 9 through driver accounts linked to the OVO digital wallet.

The company first announced the program during remarks by Indonesia Managing Director Neneng Goenadi in Semarang, Central Java, on Friday, March 6, where she described the bonus as recognition for high-performing drivers.

“The Eid 2026 holiday bonus is a form of Grab’s sincere appreciation for all of its highly productive driver-partners who serve the Indonesian people every day,” Neneng said in a statement released to the media.

Grab said the program distributes bonuses based on driver performance metrics such as trip frequency, online hours and service ratings. Drivers are grouped into several categories, with the largest payouts reaching Rp850,000 for GrabBike drivers and Rp1.6 million for GrabCar drivers, according to the company.

“We are running this program responsibly, while maintaining ecosystem sustainability, so that Grab can continue to support our driver partners in the long term,” Neneng said.

Both Grab and Gojek are among Indonesia’s largest ride-hailing platforms.

The announcement itself comes amid online reports on X (formerly Twitter) of driver shortages during Ramadan and mounting pressure from the Indonesian Transport Workers Union (SPAI) to reduce ride-hailing platform commissions.

Nabiyla Risfa Izzati, a labour law lecturer at Gadjah Mada University, criticizes the platforms, “My take: businesses that thrive in legal loopholes will struggle to sustain themselves once those loopholes are patched.”

“This is why app developers don’t really comply with tariff and deduction regulations, not to mention worker protections like social security, wages, etc.”
