KUALA LUMPUR - Indonesia welcomed 13.98 million foreign tourists from January to November 2025, up 10.44% from 12.66 million during the same period in 2024, the Ministry of Tourism reported.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti, Putri Wardhana said visitors from Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, China, and Timor-Leste made up the majority of arrivals.

“These five countries cumulatively contributed more than 56 percent of total international tourist arrivals as of November 2025,” she added.

She also noted that five airports—Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta, Surabaya’s Juanda, Medan’s Kualanamu, and Yogyakarta International served as the main entry points for international travelers.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa reported that domestic tourism reached 1.09 billion trips during the same period, surpassing the government’s 2025 target of 1.08 billion.

She said the positive trend reflects growth in tourism and underscores the need to strengthen connectivity, promote targeted marketing, and improve service quality to expand the sector further.

Puspa highlighted that over 61% of domestic tourists were concentrated in five provinces on Java Island: East Java, West Java, Central Java, Jakarta, and Banten, prompting strategies to diversify destinations and attractions.

She also cited Transportation Ministry data showing 11.81 million people visited 10 priority and three regenerative tourist destinations between December 18 and January 4, up 10.95% from the previous year.

The deputy minister said measures were taken to manage the holiday surge, including circulars to local governments and tourism operators on cleanliness, health, safety, environmental sustainability, and disaster preparedness.

She added that the Tourism Ministry offered transportation incentives, Christmas- and New Year-themed packages, and ran the Belanja di Indonesia Aja (BINA) Great Sale 2025 program, which generated around Rp31 trillion (USD1.8 billion) in sales.
