JAKARTA - The Transportation Ministry’s Directorate General of Land Transportation summoned the management of Xanh SM, also known as Green SM, on Tuesday, April 28, after one of its taxis was identified in the fatal KRL Cikarang and KA Argo Bromo Anggrek crash near East Bekasi Station.

The directorate said the taxi involved had license plate B 2864 SBX and was registered in the Siprajab system for regular taxi services in the Jabodetabek area, with a supervision card valid until October 28, 2026. Green SM also holds a five-year Safety Management System certificate for public transport companies, the ministry said.

“We have formed this special team to examine the involvement of the Xanh SM taxi, including its licensing, administrative completeness, fulfillment of safety standards, and compliance with public transport operational provisions,” Land Transportation Director General Aan Suhanan said at the ministry’s Jakarta headquarters on Tuesday, April 28.

Suhanan said the ministry would audit Green SM’s safety management standards and could impose sanctions if violations were found under Ministerial Regulation PM 85/2018 on public transport company safety management systems and PM 117/2018 on non-route passenger transport.

The crash began after a Bekasi-Cikarang KRL was involved in a collision with a Green SM taxi at the JPL 85 level crossing, according to the Transportation Ministry. A second KRL, PLB 5568, was stopped at East Bekasi Station before KA Argo Bromo Anggrek, KA 4, failed to fully stop at high speed and struck it. The incident killed 15 people and injured 88.

Green SM Indonesia is the Indonesian branch of Vietnamese electric-vehicle taxi operator Green and Smart Mobility JSC, an affiliate of Vingroup. Green SM launched its electric taxi service in Indonesia in December 2024, making Indonesia its third Southeast Asian market after Vietnam and Laos, according to the company’s website.

“We extend our deepest condolences and condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims,” the company says in a statement after the fatal collision.

“The incident is currently under investigation, and no official conclusions have been issued by the authorities. Green SM continues to coordinate with the relevant authorities by providing relevant information and supporting the investigation,” it adds.
