JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia, Indonesia’s railway operator, kept Cikarang-line commuter services from running beyond Bekasi and canceled eight long-distance trains from Jakarta on Wednesday, April 29, as recovery continued after the deadly East Bekasi Station collision.

KAI Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta canceled five departures from Pasar Senen, which included Brantas to Blitar, Jayakarta to Surabaya Gubeng, Majapahit to Malang, Bogowonto to Lempuyangan and Bangunkarta to Jombang. Three routes from Gambir Station have also been cancelled: Parahyangan to Bandung, an additional train to Yogyakarta and Purwojaya to Cilacap.

“KAI Daop 1 Jakarta apologizes for the continued cancellation of several train trips today,” KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo said, as quoted by Indonesia’s state-owned agency Antara on Wednesday.

The disruption followed Monday night’s crash on April 27 involving KA Argo Bromo Anggrek, train number 4 on the Gambir-Surabaya Pasar Turi route, and KRL PLB 5568 heading toward Cikarang at East Bekasi Station at around 8:52 PM.

KAI recorded 15 deaths and 88 injured people as of 1:26 p.m. WIB on Tuesday, April 28. Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto earlier said 10 bodies were at Bhayangkara Police Hospital, three at Bekasi Regional Hospital, one at Bella Hospital and one at Mitra Keluarga Hospital.

The Transport Ministry said the chain of events began when a Bekasi-Cikarang KRL was involved in a collision with a car at the JPL 85 level crossing, forcing service changes before Argo Bromo Anggrek struck the stopped KRL.

“We ask for the public’s prayers that this evacuation process will proceed quickly, safely, and prioritize safety, while also saving victims who were still inside the train. We are also giving the KNKT (National Transportation Safety Committee) the opportunity to conduct an objective investigation,” said Indonesia’s Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi.

The ministry’s land transport directorate also summoned Green SM/Xanh SM after identifying the taxi involved as B 2864 SBX, registered for Jabodetabek taxi service with a supervision card valid until October 28, 2026.
