JAKARTA - Iran’s Embassy in Jakarta issued a formal press statement on Sunday, March 9, laying out Tehran’s account of ten days of war as the tension between Israel, US, and Iran escalates.

The headline figure, according to Iran’s Embassy in Jakarta, is more than 1,300 civilians killed since February 28, with 9,669 civilian sites destroyed, among them 7,943 homes, 32 medical facilities, 65 schools, and 13 Red Crescent buildings. These are Iranian government figures and have not been independently verified.

“The American and Zionist criminals are not only satisfied with killing thousands of innocent Iranians who are fasting,” the Embassy says.

The statement reserves its sharpest language for the March 4 sinking of frigate IRIS Dena.

The ship had been in Visakhapatnam at the official invitation of the Indian Navy for a multilateral training exercise attended by 74 countries, and was sailing home when a US submarine torpedoed it in international waters off Sri Lanka more than 2,000 nautical miles from Iran.

“This action not only constitutes a horrifying crime,” the statement says as Iran puts the death toll at 104, “but also extends the scope of war beyond Iran's coastal territory and threatens the safety of international navigation.”

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the strike at the Pentagon, calling it a “quiet death” and the first torpedo sinking of an enemy vessel by the US Navy since World War II.

The statement also confirmed Mojtaba Khamenei's election as supreme leader with more than 85% of Assembly of Experts votes.

“This election once again proves that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not depend on a single individual, but is a system founded on the rule of law, the voice of the people, and Divine values,” it reads.

Phase 30 of Iran's "True Promise 4" retaliatory operation against Israel was already underway Monday morning under his command. Iran claims it is acting under Article 51 of the UN Charter and will keep fighting until the strikes stop or the Security Council fulfils its obligations under Article 39.

US President Trump, speaking in Doral, Florida, said he was "disappointed" by Iran's choice. "We think it's going to lead to just more of the same problem for the country,” he said.
