KUALA LUMPUR - A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Aomori Prefecture, Japan, on Monday at 11.15 pm (local time), centered offshore at a depth of 54 km.

The Japanese government immediately activated its crisis management task force through the Prime Minister’s Office in response to the quake.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the Cabinet Office issued alerts warning of possible aftershocks in the region.

As of Tuesday at 8.30 am (local time), the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo reported that no Indonesian citizens (WNI) had been affected by the earthquake.

The embassy reminded Indonesians that Japan is a high-risk earthquake zone and advised them to stay calm while remaining alert and preparing basic mitigation measures.

WNI are urged to follow updates through Japanese national media and to obey all official instructions from local authorities.

The advisory also includes instructions to learn and memorize nearby evacuation routes, prepare an emergency bag, and store important documents and sufficient cash.

For those in emergencies or in need of assistance, the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate-General in Osaka have opened 24-hour hotlines.

"The embassy urges all Indonesians in Japan to remain calm but stay alert, prepare emergency supplies, and follow official instructions at all times," the embassy said.
