KUALA LUMPUR - China has delivered a second batch of emergency humanitarian assistance to Cambodia, reaffirming its position as one of the earliest and largest aid providers while pledging continued support for peace and stability in the region.
According to Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin, the aid shipment arrived in Phnom Penh yesterday and will be distributed to civilians displaced by the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict.
“The second batch of humanitarian aid supplies provided by the Chinese government to Cambodia arrived in Phnom Penh on January 8 smoothly.
“These supplies will be earmarked for displaced civilians in border areas to help ease difficulties in their lives,” Wang said in a social media post yesterday.
The latest delivery forms part of a RMB20 million or 20 million yuan (about USD2.8 million) emergency humanitarian aid package, following an earlier shipment on Jan 28 that included tents, blankets and food supplies.
“These supplies are intended to help displaced civilians ease their living difficulties and improve conditions as they overcome the current challenges,” Wang said during a distribution ceremony in Banteay Meanchey and Battambang provinces on January 3.
Wang described Cambodia as an ‘ironclad friend’ and said China would continue supporting the country’s efforts to maintain stability and peace.
“Peace is a shared aspiration of the Cambodian and Thai people, and also China’s unremitting pursuit,” he added.
