KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysians have been advised to avoid non-essential travel to Algeria and Tunisia amid ongoing regional tensions and a significant reduction in flight services.

The Embassy of Malaysia in Algiers said those planning to travel to the two countries should consider postponing their trips until conditions improve.

“Given the recent and significant reduction in flight services to and from Algeria and Tunisia, we advise all Malaysian citizens who are considering travel to Algeria and Tunisia to thoughtfully reschedule their plans until conditions improve and safe travel can be assured,” the embassy said in a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday.

It added that the precaution is necessary to safeguard travellers’ safety and well-being.

“This precaution is vital for your safety and well-being,” the embassy said.

Malaysians currently in Algeria or Tunisia were also urged to register their whereabouts with the embassy if they have not done so.

The embassy advised travellers to notify the mission by sending an email to mwalgiers@kln.gov.my.

“This allows us to keep you informed of any emergencies and provide necessary assistance during your stay,” the statement added.

Malaysians in the region were also urged to remain vigilant and keep abreast of the latest developments.

“It is crucial to exercise caution and prioritize your safety at all times,” the embassy said.

The embassy also stressed the importance of reviewing official travel advisories before making travel plans.

“We strongly recommend avoiding all non-essential travel to the affected countries until the situation stabilises and becomes more favourable for travel,” it added.
