JAKARTA - Indonesia's embassy in Tehran confirmed on Saturday that all 329 Indonesian nationals registered with the mission were safe following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, while tens of thousands of Indonesians performing *umrah *in Saudi Arabia found themselves stranded as airlines cancelled and rerouted flights.

Ambassador Rolliansyah Soemirat, in an audio statement released Saturday, February 28, said the embassy's priority was maintaining two-way communication with all registered Indonesians across every city in Iran.

“At least 329 Indonesian citizens have reported and registered officially at KBRI Tehran,” he said. “As of 14:30 Tehran time, all of our contact points across various cities in Iran reported they have not experienced or felt any direct threat.”

The ambassador added that security assessments would continue in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta, and that Indonesians in Iran should take necessary precautions to secure themselves and their families. The majority of the 329 are students concentrated in the city of Qom.

Indonesia has maintained Alert Level 1 status for Iran since June 2025, following the first US strike on the country under President Trump.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Jakarta also confirmed that 58,873 Indonesian pilgrims were in Saudi Arabia as of Saturday, based on data from the government's Siskopatuh pilgrim tracking system, with departure and return schedules disrupted by airline route changes and cancellations.

Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organisation Puji Raharjo urged pilgrims not to panic and to coordinate with their respective travel organisers. "Remain calm and continue to coordinate with your Umrah Travel Organizers to obtain official and up-to-date information," he said in Jakarta on Saturday.

Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak went further on Sunday March 1, advising all Indonesians scheduled to depart for *umrah *in the near term to postpone.

“Considering the uncertain conditions in the Middle East and the escalating situation, we urge umrah pilgrims who are about to depart in the near future to postpone their departure until conditions are truly conducive," he said in a statement posted to the ministry's Instagram account.

That said, Haji 2026 preparations still remain on track for now, he said.

A close ally to the US, Saudi Arabia hosts American military facilities although the Kingdom has explicitly told Tehran before strikes began that it would not allow its airspace or territory to be used to attack Iran.

Despite that, Saudi Arabia had actually been part of a weeks-long lobbying effort alongside Israel that pushed Trump to launch the attack in the first place, according to four people familiar with the matter cited by The Washington Post.
