BERLIN - Omio said in a corporate release distributed on July 23 that Granite-Integral would make a US$10 million strategic investment to support its expansion in Japan and Southeast Asia.
The travel-booking company said the funding would help enlarge its transport inventory across both markets, develop local partnerships and refine its customer offering. Omio also plans to expand its teams in Japan and at its artificial intelligence-focused technology hub in Singapore.
The investment announcement did not disclose the transaction’s structure or provide a timetable for deploying the capital.
Omio launched in Japan on March 12, making the country its 47th market and its first in East Asia. The platform allows international travellers to search and book Shinkansen services, regional trains, long-distance buses, domestic flights, ferries and Japan Rail Passes through one service.
The company said it was seeing demand from international travellers along the Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka “Golden Route” and to more remote destinations, including mountain regions, sacred routes and coastal communities. Omio said its Japanese operator partners include Japan Railways and bus company Willer Express.
Omio founder and chief executive Naren Shaam said Granite-Integral’s regional expertise would help the company “accelerate a new era of connected travel in Japan” and expand across Southeast Asia.
Japan recorded 21,084,800 international visitor arrivals during the first half of 2026, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization. June arrivals reached 3,148,600, down 6.8% from a year earlier, although 15 source markets recorded their highest June totals.
Omio entered Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia in 2025. The company initially offered regional flights and buses from thousands of transport operators before adding ferry services.
Its Singapore technology hub opened in July 2025 to support artificial intelligence development, supply and commercial partnerships, networking and recruitment across Southeast Asia.
Granite-Integral is a joint venture formed in March 2025 by Singapore-based investment firm Granite Asia and Japan’s Integral Corporation. The partners committed US$100 million equally to the venture, which targets growth-stage technology companies entering Japan and Japanese companies expanding overseas.
Omio said it offers bookable transport options across 48 countries, sells more than 100,000 tickets daily and employs more than 470 people. The company aims to operate in more than 70 markets by 2028, with Japan and Southeast Asia among its priority regions.
