KUALA LUMPUR - Longcheer Technology in Shanghai is planning to invest about RM500 million in Johor, in a move set to strengthen Malaysia’s high-tech manufacturing sector.

Johor investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman Lee Ting Han said the proposal was discussed during an official visit by state representatives to Shanghai.

He said the company, established in 2002, is among the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of electronic devices.

“Although Longcheer Technology may not be well known to the public, the fact is that the technology they develop is widely used throughout the world,” he said in a Facebook post on April 1, as reported by FMT.

Lee noted that the company develops a range of products including smartphones, artificial intelligence-based computers, wearable devices, smart glasses and mixed-reality technologies.

He said discussions centred on long-term cooperation and Johor’s position as a key destination for high-tech investments in the region.

The proposed investment aligns with Johor’s strategy to become a high-income state driven by value-added industries.

These include the electronics, digital and smart technology sectors.

Lee said Johor’s strategic location and supportive policies continue to attract quality investments.

“With Johor’s strategic position and the support of initiatives such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, we are on the right track to attract more quality investments like this,” he said.

The investment is expected to create around 200 highly skilled job opportunities.
