JAKARTA - Maybank is developing a new mobile application to replace the current popular MAE app to create a much more unified regional digital platform.
The announcement was made by Maybank President and Group CEO Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli during a corporate briefing in Kuala Lumpur on January 20 as part of the bank’s ROAR30 five-year strategy.
“MAE is indeed good, but there are certain capabilities that we need to implement. We are now focusing on development for the group and the region,” said Maybank’s boss Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli, as quoted by Malaysia’s state-owned agency Bernama.
The MAE app, which has been running since 2020, has served over 10 millions of Malaysians and processed more than RM4 trillion in digital transactions. Maybank said the transition will be phased so that customers could still retain access to their accounts while the new platform rolls out.
The app’s retirement is part of the bank’s five-year ROAR30 strategy and comes alongside a RM10 billion technology investment.
“We want to develop a single platform for multiple footprints and countries,” Ramli added.
In its official statement, Maybank said the MAE replacement will “leverage digital-first and omnichannel platforms.” The bank also claimed that the new app will combine the evolution of MAE with “next-generation technology and AI.”
Maybank serves a significant customer base outside Malaysia, with the group reporting it has over 16 million retail, non‑retail and corporate customers across 18 countries, including all 10 ASEAN markets.
Elsewhere in its ROAR30 plan, Maybank aims to mobilise RM300 billion in sustainable finance, support SMEs with RM100 billion in financing, expand its regional wealth and Islamic finance businesses, and invest RM10 billion in technology, data, and AI for customer experience across ASEAN.
