JAKARTA - Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have formalised a joint business partnership that will change how air travel between Malaysia and Singapore is sold, scheduled and marketed.
The deal, approved by regulators in both countries, will see the two carriers sharing revenue on select flights, selling joint fare products, coordinating flight schedules and introducing combined corporate travel arrangements.
“This also reinforces the long-standing and deep people-to-people and trade links between Singapore and Malaysia, supporting economic growth and connectivity that will benefit both nations,” said Singapore Airlines CEO, Goh Choon Phong in a press release sent to the media.
That means customers could soon buy one ticket that works across both airlines with aligned departure times and consistent pricing, and business travellers will have unified travel programmes.
As part of their partnership, Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich members can now earn points on selected Singapore Airlines flights to destinations including Kuala Lumpur, London, Barcelona, and Rome, while KrisFlyer members can earn miles on Malaysia Airlines routes to cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Singapore, and London.
Members of both programmes can also redeem points or miles for flights on the other airline, though only on specific destinations and booking classes
The Kuala Lumpur–Singapore route remains one of Southeast Asia’s busiest, with more than 5.6 million seats scheduled between the cities in 2025.
Around 350,000 to 450,000 people cross the Malaysia–Singapore border daily, with about 300,000 commuting for work or school. Airline traffic is smaller but still significant as Singapore Airlines carried roughly 115,000 passengers per day in 2025 with Malaysia Airlines contributing a sizable share.
