JAKARTA - The Jakarta Provincial Government has rescheduled the commercial opening of the Kelapa Gading–Manggarai light rail line, leaving the official start of passenger service pending while final tests and station adjustments conclude.
The postponement follows an end-stage readiness review by municipal authorities for the 6.4-kilometer Phase 1B extension, which connects the existing Velodrome station in Rawamangun to the Manggarai transit junction.
Although civil works, tracks, and elevated viaducts along the corridor are 100 percent complete, the provincial government delayed the launch to ensure that tactile paving and priority facilities for elderly and disabled commuters are fully operational.
The railway is also undergoing final safety and system certification under the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung previously noted that the inauguration timeline depends on the schedule of President Prabowo Subianto, who was called to oversee urgent disaster response operations in East Nusa Tenggara and Kalimantan.
While non-passenger test trains are actively running along the newly built extension, revenue service remains restricted to the original 5.8-kilometer route between Pegangsaan Dua and Velodrome.
Once formally cleared for commercial operations, the unified 12.2-kilometer corridor will span 11 elevated stations, carrying an estimated 80,000 daily passengers and reducing end-to-end travel times between North and South Jakarta to roughly 28 minutes.
At the southern terminus, Stasiun Manggarai will serve as a central interchange integrating the light rail line with Transjakarta bus routes and heavy-rail KRL Commuter Line services.
PT Jakarta Propertindo and PT Kereta Api Indonesia are constructing a dedicated pedestrian connection between the LRT and KRL concourses, with direct transfer access scheduled to open in September.
Passengers will pay a promotional flat fare of Rp5,000 through October 2026, with free travel provided to 15 eligible demographic groups under regional regulations.
The city eventually plans to extend the line by two kilometers from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas, targeting construction in 2027 and delivery by 2028.
